The Delaware Investments Charity Classic "nails it" for Habitat for Humanity® Philadelphia

The Delaware Investments Charity Classic, a corporate-sponsored golf tournament held annually in October, raised more than $124,000 in charitable donations in 2011 to benefit Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia.

That total was matched by the Macquarie Group Foundation, the corporate philanthropic arm of Macquarie Group, which is the parent company of Delaware Investments, raising the overall total to more than $224,000 in 2011.

Many Delaware Investments employees volunteered with Habitat for Humanity this year and helped build the "Delaware Investments house" on Latona Street in South Philadelphia, for which a dedication to the joyous family took place on Dec. 16, 2011.

Since its launch in 2005, the annual Charity Classic has successfully raised more than $1.1 million, benefiting a number of deserving Philadelphia-area nonprofit organizations, including:

  • 2010: Philadelphia Wooden Boat Factory
  • 2009: After School Activities Partnerships (ASAP)
  • 2008: The Cradle of Liberty Council, Philadelphia Futures
  • 2007: Philadelphia Society for Services to Children
  • 2006: Neighborhood Bike Works, Rebuilding Together Philadelphia
  • 2005: Operation Warm

Movember "staches" raise nearly $8,000

The Mo Bro and Mo Sista experience kicks off each November as men and women across the world humbly take on the responsibility of facing men’s health issues and encouraging others to do the same. Delaware Investments and Macquarie employees in Philadelphia became fundraising billboards by growing moustaches for Movember, engaging all with whom they interacted to take an interest in or donate to their campaign.

Driven by the ambition not only to raise money but awareness, understanding, and preventative care for diseases such as prostate cancer that afflict men each year, these Mo's raised $7,784, matched by the Macquarie Group Foundation, bringing the total contribution in 2011 to $15,568. Currently ranked 204th in the nation, Macquarie Mo's Philadelphia Team continues to accept donations year-round.

Philabundance feeds more than 800 local families

Delaware Investments supported Philabundance in 2011 by accepting nonperishable food items and monetary donations. Boxes were assembled, filled, and loaded in order to deliver hundreds of meals to local families as our employees worked hard to support Philabundance's mission to "drive hunger from our communities." Our direct support brought in a total of $175,000, which is equivalent to 350,000 meals for families in the Delaware Valley.

Delaware Investments employees' generous efforts during the holidays contributed to the final Philabundance overall total as well, helping to help feed a total of 831 families in the Delaware Valley.

Guest chefs visit the Ronald McDonald House

The Ronald McDonald House is a safe "home away from home" for families and their sick children seeking medical treatment. Giving them a safe place to sleep, eat, and comfort one another allows them to focus entirely on healthful outcomes and feel the support of their new community. The Ronald McDonald House runs on volunteer participation and donations, providing a haven for loved ones at a discounted cost or sometimes no cost at all.

Delaware Investments employees visited the Ronald McDonald House in 2011 as part of its Guest Chef Program where volunteers work together to prepare home-cooked meals. They came together to lend a hand in the kitchen and spend quality time with families who have put their lives on hold to take care of their sick children.

Fighting for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)

By way of organized walks, dances, and banquets, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation works to advocate type 1 diabetes research and education. Nearly three million Americans are currently afflicted with this cunning disease that hits hard and fast, requiring those diagnosed to make immediate lifestyle changes in order to avoid life-threatening complications including kidney failure, strokes, and blindness. JDRF stands strong in the face of type 1 diabetes and promotes outreach programs that mentor, support, teach children and their families, and accept donations that help advance the steps toward finding a cure.

Delaware Investments participated in a number of these programs in 2011, showcasing support for those affected by type 1 diabetes. In walking, dancing, and advocating, this support generates both understanding and compassion for this hopeful and courageous community of fighters.

Other partnerships and volunteerism

With volunteer opportunities in abundance, Delaware Investments initiated its Community Advisory Committee (CAC) in March 2010 to help cultivate volunteerism at all levels of the organization and accelerate the fostering of relationships throughout our local community. The CAC meets quarterly to assess potential opportunities and encourage Delaware Investments employees to provide volunteer support for projects of nonprofit organizations. Many of these projects focus on providing educational opportunities and improving the health and welfare of our underserved children.

Back on My Feet, Big Buddy Reading Program, Greater Philadelphia Cares' Reading STARS, Good Shepherd Mediation Program, American Diabetes Association Tour De Cure, Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, and Susan G. Komen Foundation were among the office-wide fundraising and volunteer events that elicited participation from Delaware Investments and its employees in 2011.

Together, Delaware Investments and the Macquarie Group Foundation share the simple belief that a company has a responsibility to work for the betterment of the communities in which it operates. With the growth of our business comes the duty to give back, to help make a difference, and to improve the quality of life in the communities in which we do business — a responsibility borne out of the core principles on which our company was founded.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

"To volunteer for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is to make a difference through raising both funds and awareness for type 1 juvenile diabetes research. This disease mainly affects children and young people. When we work on these corporate teams, we actually build team spirit and camaraderie. It's a great chance to come together on non-work-related projects and contribute to a great cause."- Nicoleta Maxim,

Movember

"With more internal support than ever before, Philadelphia-based Delaware Investments and Macquarie employees really threw every lip hair at the abominable diseases affecting men’s health. Awareness and ‘staches grew more and more throughout the company, and the world, during the month of Movember — bringing us one shave closer to a cure. Donations from fellow employees, family, and friends have continued to increase every year and I’m looking forward to next Movember."-Peter Wolk,

"As a parent, nothing is worse than having a sick child. Delaware Investments wants to honor the families that travel from afar to get the best medical care for their children.
